What size front sprocket is needed to roll in a 4ft quarter without bashing your chain?
I’m thinking about buying a bmx, and I was wondering what size sprocket would be small enough to roll in, straight on without hitting the chain. My buddy has a 25 and that works fine, I’m just wondering if a 28 or so will work.
I want to roll strait in, not drop in. a bashguard wont help because it will crack eventually. I want to just roll in so i can practice slow speed tricks. ( i ride brakeless)
you need to keep the gear ratio right… i ride a 27 tooth in the front and like a 7 in the back and i dont get even get close to hitting. YOu could also try to hop in a little bit. or get a brake… there is no reason to ride without one
depends on the frame geometry. i used to drop in with a 42t with minimum scrapage but alot of that is tecnique. drop your nose and kick up the back end as you drop and you can clear any gear you like.
edit- alll parts will wear eventually, as stated its going to depend on the geometry of your frame. if your learning slow speed (read tech) tricks then why do you need to roll in? as stated gear ratio is important, more so than a bit of sprok slag.
good luck
