how do i get my doctor to listen to me about my back problems?

i have went about 4 years now with severe back pains and i cannot find a doctor to listen to me. im 22yrs old and have had back and neck pain since about 18. the first time was lifting a 300lbs. roll of unprinted news paper. that ended up screwing up my lower back. then when i was 18 i got smashed and my friend dared me to do a backflip off his roof (i could do one off his porch so i tryed it). that completelyu messed up my upper back and neck (i landed on the back of my neck and my chin ended up in the center of my chest). then awhile later i was skateboarding and bent my mid back in half on a hand rail. i cant find a doctor to do anything about it because they think since im so young im lying and just want pills or something. its basicly gotten to the point where it hurts to do anything. even sitting or laying down is painful and i cannot stand too long either without my neck, back, and leg hurting. how do i get a doctor to listen to me?

If a Doctor gives you pain medication that is not appropriate or causes you to become addicted, he could face some very severe consequences..

For example if your Doctor were to give you Percocet or Oxycontin he could be legally liable in Civil Court for monetary damages, your doctor could be held criminally liable as well.

Your doctor could also lose his license to practice medicine.

I have read some of your other posts.

You seem to be quite familiar with Oxycontin and Percocet.

I remember one of your comments that you think that everyone is taking Percocet.

You have probably said some things like this to your doctor as well.

Your doctor is probably thinking that if everyone that you know is taking Percocet, you are probably involved in the drug culture.

Your doctor is probably thinking that you are trying to get these drugs by prescription and you are just faking the pain to get him to prescribe them to you.

Your doctor is probably thinking about the risk to his license to practice medicine, about the possible Civil Liability that he could face and even the possible Criminal liability that he could face if he were to prescribe one of these drugs to you.

For example what would happen to your doctor if it was later determined that the prescription was not appropriate, that you did not have the pain that you say you have, you became addicted to them, were selling them to other people or are already addicted to them and you are just trying to get your doctor to feed your drug habit.

If you want your doctor to listen to you the first thing that you must do is stop hanging around with people who are illegally taking drugs like percocet and oxycontin.

You then must learn to stop talking like you are a member of the drug culture.

  1. Don’t give up! Keep looking for a doctor that will work with you. To save money, you can sometimes call and explain the situation to a nurse there first and get a feel for the response. It sounds like you need to have an MRI done to determine the extent of the injury.

In the meantime, take some OTC non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug such as ibuprofin on a regular basis. Heating pads might also benefit you to help relax the muscles.

Also, I might suggest that you curtail the impulsive, daring type behaviors before you are paralyzed or worse-kill yourself!

  2. i had a similar problem when i was about 20 i was lifting heavy plant all day at work and damaged my back, i went to the doctor and she gave me pills, i went home and a day later i could hardly walk, a couple of days later when i could move a little better i went to see the doctor again. and told her what was going on, she said the symptoms I’m describing don’t exist, and sent me on my way, and i was in serious pain when i moved, my back still gives me problems 10 years latter but i haven’t been to a doctor since, this is the British NHS, if i have any problems now I’d just pay for private medical care.

so if you pay for it they will take you serious.
but if you go through NHS they wont help, they’ll make you worse

    Hi There!

I’m truly sorry to hear about your pain. It sounds like you’ve been through the mill!

I’m 20 yr. old and when I was 18 I got into a car with an inexperienced driver. Needless to say, he had a crash which has left me with a herniated disc in my L5 area of my lumbar along with whiplash. It could have been worse, but thank goodness it wasn’t.

But, my point is, I have experience similar pains with sitting, laying, bending, and my left leg being tense and in pain. I don’t know what kind of doctor is helping you, but might I suggest an orthopedic or rehab practitioner. They specialize with these aliments and can order tests to find out what exactly is going on.

I, myself, have turned to my local health food store because I find my body responses better to what they offer. Also, I know what is wrong with me and know what I need to do to fix it.

I am taking Glucosamine Chondroitin MSM triple strength by Nature’s Plus twice a day in two pill increments. Along with that, I take one Premium Lubri-Joint by Inholtra with the two MSMs. Premium Lubri-Joint effects women better than men, and I have found that the two combined work better than tramadol and methocarbamol.

Your doctor should be concern about your condition BECAUSE you are young, and should take you seriously. I’ve been told many times that it is unlike a 20 yr. to have this type of pain. Remember, pain is our body’s way of communication.

My advice is to find an orthopedic doctor who is friendly and listens, and let him run some tests. Here is a link to a very helpful website that you can print off and show him:

And whatever you do, please take it easy from here on out. Let others bend down for you, and lay down to where you feel the least amount of pain.

If you want to email me please feel free. I’ll be praying for you!

  7. Two suggestions: Find a friendlier dorctor. Or, go to a chiroprator, they will take exrays and determine the cause of your pain. It sounds like your spine is very out-of-line and a chiropractor can adjust this for you. I’ve gone to one for 20 years and have great faith in chiropractoic.
