18 week old not rolling or lifting head on tummy?

Can anyone tell me when their little ones did the above, our girlf was 5 weeks early and most books and things say that preemies may hit milestones later than term babies but I cant help thinking she is a bit lazy at the moment.
She has rolled onto one side once and thats it, if you lie her down on any surface she will just lie there turning her head and bringing her legs right up but no rolling.
If you put her on her front she will not lift her head at all really, she just moves it left and right scraping her nose and forehead on the carpet then screams.
Just interested to know what others experienced and at what point in time we should consult someone (if ever)

dont worry about it, im a mum of 4 and my youngest is 6mths so im still fresh at remembering,
at 4 months- 16weeks- my bub still held her head to one side only and my dr said her stregnth will improve and within a few weeks it got much better, she hated tummy time and at 4mths would also do what your bub does, and scraped her face along the carpet and cry, but i just persisted cos dr said it would improve her head stregnth, a few minutes here and there in the day and within 2 weeks u will see a difference in her stregnth
my bub is 6 mths and has only rolled 3 times, shes lazy, and chubby

and considering your little one was 5 weeks early you have no need to worry, she will get there in another month or so,
my bub was slower than some babies at head stregnth and rolling and so on, but shes always given the thumbs up at the maternal health centre and by my dr, shes healthy and fits in the average for her milestones, dont worry if u get answers saying their kids did things early, all bubs r different
good luck, take care, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  1. hey these are supposed to be normal mile stones….

At 1 month the babs head should he held
at 1.5 to 2 months and not more than three months the baby should roll over..
about 5 months the baby should sit with support
    about 6 months sit unsupported
about 7 months stand with support
about 8-9 months walk holding the rails and wall
about 10 -12 months walk unsupported.

if u feel anything late in this schedule u better contact a ear;y interventinal pedicatric physical therapist

  2. My daughter was able to roll over when she was around 5 months old (20 weeks).
The more she is left on her tummy, the more she will be encouraged to move her head away from the carpet. Maybe put a very soft thin blanket on the floor, so she wont hurt her nose and face. Other than that’s its just a waiting game really.
All children are different, and some are more lazy to begin with. If you really are concerned call your GP or health visitor to take a look at her, but they will probably say she will do it when shes ready.

    I hope this helped.

  3. All babies are different. My nephew hasn’t rolled yet & he is six months. I was walking at 8 months. Ask your health visitor if you are concerned.

  5. Well since she was a preemie, you have to take 5 weeks off of the 18. So she should really only be at about 3 months developmentally. My daughters didn’t roll until she was 5 months or so. They both would play on their tummies and lift their heads up. If she can turn her head from side to side, but can’t lift it much yet, I would consult her pediatrician. She should be lifting her head and turning towards noises at this age. Do you give her plenty of time on her tummy. maybe she isn’t used to it and would rather be held. I would give her several tummy time sessions a day for a week or so. If you don’t see any change in her head control, talk to her doctor. Don’t pick her up right away when she fusses. Let her stay on her tummy for a whild to help her muscles develop.

  6. Hi i think your baby is doing great from what i have read, if she is not supporting her head or body unaided by the time she is say around 10 months even tho you have tried to help her do this then i think you should contact your HV or Doctor.

She is doing great for a "Normal" 18 weeks old so is doing fantastic for a prem (in my opinion)

my eldest was the slowest at doing every thing but i think this was because i would be worried all the time so i think i held her back.
she is now 14 and still mega slow but that’s just being a teen lol

Your doing great maybe stop reading to many parent toddler mags and books and uses your mothering in-stinks (the mags and books do help but sometimes they can give conflicting advice)

its great to ask really mums on here tho xxxxxx

    Good luck xxxxx

  7. You have nothing to worry about. She was a preemie, so she will take a bit longer to do some things, but will catch up soon. If she is able to hold her head but is unwilling while on her tummy, or if you can help her, I would highly recomed the lamaze spin and explore garden. It holds baby a few inches off the floor, and lets the get use of their hands better. My son hated tummy time untill I put him on this. It did not slow his rolling, he rolled at 4 months, but it made tummy time more comfy for him. It was not long untill he could get it to spin to get to what he wanted (usually the crinkel butterfly). It encourages exploration, which is wonderful. Otherwise, just keep trying a few mins a day, and try to get her up befor she gets too fussy. Make tummy time fun, and get down there with her. Good luck, and I am sure she will reach these goals when she is good and ready.

  9. Don’t worry about it, there’s nothing wrong with your baby, and considering she was a preemie she will acomplish these milestones at her own pace. My baby girl just turned 5 months old yesterday and she lifts her head when on her tummy and puts her arms straight for support, arching her back. She doesn’t roll over yet. She tries (it’s so funny looking at her) but she hasn’t been able to do it yet.
    all babies are different.
