First, I have asked this question many times, why do they have to be mutually exclusive? To assume we, in this day, have all the answers is absurd. They didn't have them then, and we don't have them now. Second, I don't know of a religion where, essentially, pretending to believe is good enough to make you a righteous person and therefore worthy of heaven. You either believe, for real with all your heart, or you don't. Pretending will get you no where.

I think the issue is that so much of the world’s suffering has been caused by religion…just look at what is the root of all the horrible terrorism going on: religious beliefs. If something is truly absurd (which I believe the fairy-tale like religious stories are), and it is causing so much harm in the world, we should argue against it. Also, even for the typical "christians" of the US, they make judgements about others all the time, force their beliefs on others (the abortion issue), and generally impose their beliefs whenever they can. If people would just believe what they believe and not bother everyone else, then I wouldn’t have a problem with religion. But when it starts affecting how I live, I am bothered by it.

So my point, to answer your question, is if someone doesn’t believe in heaven/hell, then it’s not worth their time pretending to believe because you’re scraded of soemthing you don’t believe in. What I’m saying is, the very fact that you don’t believe it means you can’t just believe it because it’s "the safe bet." I have ranted now, and I apologize.

I believe in both evolution and creation. I love Jesus, but I believe in evolution. Why do you think Jesus would send people to Hell for believing in evolution. God is loving and forgiving. Besides, science is real. Christians used to believe the earth was flat and that it was blasphemy to suggest otherwise, or to suggest that Earth revolves around the Sun and that the universe doesn’t revolve around Earth. What is wrong with believing in evolution? It’s so frustrating to me that Christians think evolution is evil. Open your mind to science. It’s not bad. God created the world and the phsical laws that govern it. Most other aspects of science you would not deny, so why deny evolution?

When you take into account the Biblical account of creation, you have to consider the time period, possible metaphorical meanings, what symbols meant to the people that wrote it, their scientific knowledge at that time, etc. The Bible is so much deeper and so much more meaningful when you don’t take everything so literally. I have a very strong faith in God and believe in evolution. They are both real.

And who says that believing in God will automatically make you a great person? There are some wonderful, peaceful and loving people who do not believe in God. You don’t have to be a Christian to make the world a better place.

Let’s see Creation Fairy Tale vs Evolution based on scientific provable evidence…I vote for Evolution. Creation isn’t provable utilizing the scientific method and at least Evolution has sufficient science behind it to be a viable theory. Faith wise it’s okay to believe that their may/might be a creator…but it’s more likely that the creator set a process in motion EVOLUTION (Intelligent Design) than to just outright deny it. Now I am a pure EVOULTIONIST because I a) Don’t, Won’t, Can’t take the Bible literally…Fairy Tales, Fables, Allegories and Metaphores; and b) Won’t accept anything that can’t be subjected to scientific investigation…Creation can’t even be investigated reasonably…It’s not a theory it’s a matter of faith. PEACE!

You said "if it turns out in the end that creation is the truth, many people will spend eternity in hell" so you’ll stick with Jesus. You obviously have *a very low opinion* of Jesus and ‘God’, if you actually believe that anyone suffers eternal torment because they believe this or that. By your statements you make it clear that the "deity" you worship is a cruel and unfair tyrant.

And P.S. There are evolutionists who believe in God, who in fact believe God is the author of science and truth and universal law — regardless of the mythological tales created by primitive men thousands of years ago.

I think that others choice not to believe is based on being afraid of living by a standard that was laid out for us thousands of years ago. I sometimes fear that they will become so resistant to that righteousness that they will join with the thieves and the dreggs of society who choose not to contribute to, but to take away from the general population.
